About Music Talks

It is quite untrue that British people don’t appreciate music. They may not
understand it but they absolutely love the noise it makes.

STOP PRESS! Another exciting  Music Talks course launches in October 2019. Music in Time and Place looks at musical trends since the late 19th century, when tonality began to dissolve and new directions emerged. You are warmly invited to try out the course as a guest, by attending the first session on Wednesday 9 October, 10.15am,  at Christ Church, Victoria Road, London W8 5RQ.  Settings of Verlaine’s poetry by Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, Hahn and others, all presented by Jeremy Sams and his musicians. If you’d like to join us for this session or have any questions,  simply contact mail@musictalks.org.uk or 07872 505922. You will be most welcome in our large and friendly group of like-minded music lovers.

Music Talks is a small organisation which presents lecture-recital series and one-off musical events.  We select our specialist presenters not just for their knowledge but also for their outstanding communication skills and infectious enthusiasm, ensuring that you need no prior knowledge of music to enjoy the sessions.  Using live performance and recorded extracts, our presenters take you behind the notes of a piece, into the composer’s circumstances, the historical context, other art forms, and social trends. They explore the sounds and structure of the chosen work, explain its building blocks, and offer aural ‘signposts’ to make your listening an even more enjoyable and rewarding experience.  All courses provide extensive on-line materials for members through its website.

To find out about our courses, click on COURSES on the the horizontal menu above. Feel free to get in touch using the contact form if you have any enquiries, or if we can put together an event tailor-made for you and your guests in your own home.
